The Instructor Development Workshop is geared towards shooting enthusiasts who want to share their love for the shooting sports. The NRA courses that you will teach are foundational courses (Basic Pistol, Basic Shotgun, Basic Rifle, the Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home) that focus on safe gun handling and responsible firearms ownership.
Every NRA Instructor Candidate must start with a six hour period of instruction to cover the "basics" of the NRA Instructor Program. From there, the instruction is directed towards the specific rating (Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, etc).
The workshops are normally focused on similar ratings: Basic Instructor ($80) + Pistol ($160) and Home Firearms Safety ($160). Basic Instructor ($80) + Rifle ($160) and Shotgun ($160).
Personal Protection Outside the Home ($320) is a two day course and is taught as a single training evolution. The prerequisites for PPOTH are that you must currently hold the ratings for Pistol and Personal Protection Inside the Home and you must have passed the student course for Personal Protection Outside the Home.
The Instructor Development Workshops are conducted by Jason Schafer. Jason is a Senior Training Counselor and Chief Range Safety Officer.
Please note: You must contact Jason prior to signing up for an Instructor Development course. Payment for the course in no way guarantees my endorsement nor is there a guarantee of appointment by the NRA as an Instructor. Only through the endorsement of a Training Counselor will you gain certification as an NRA Instructor. Performance failure in the areas of knowledge, skills and attitude is a certain disqualifier for endorsement.
By seeking to gain certification as an NRA Instructor, you are mandated to teach the NRA courses as specified in your NRA Course Outlines.
In addition to your course fees, there will also be a $15 per day facility fee due the first day of the course and made payable to the host facility.
